"Poway Station" |
On December 18, 1999, thirty-one model railroad enthusiasts formed the Poway Station Model Railroad Club, honoring the city in which they reside. The railroad club models all scales of model railroading, with an emphasis on N scale (1:160), HO scale (1:87), and G scale (1:22.5). Each modeler builds his own section of the layout, called a “module”, which measures 48 inches long by 30 inches deep. These portable modules are joined end to end and allow the club to build different layout designs to fit display areas. For example, the layout has been displayed in shopping malls, churches, public buildings, and parks. A minimum of two mainline tracks are placed on each module that meet specific standards, with switches that allow trains to branch off to miniature towns, farms, mountains, or industrial areas. I was asked by Poway Station to produce a sign promoting the club which can be displayed on an easel, or hung from a wall. |

Original Painting 48 " x 60 " - Acrylic on Masonite |
| On the left side of the painting is a set of Santa Fe Railroad red and silver “Warbonnet” F-7A and B diesel locomotives. The Santa Fe Railroad, which is now part of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF), had a rich history in the San Diego area, and many of the club members model this particular railroad. On the right side of the painting is a Southern Pacific GS-4 (4-8-4 Northern) “Daylight” passenger steam locomotive. The Southern Pacific, which is now part of the Union Pacific Railroad, also had a rich history in the Southern California area, and is a favorite with many model railroaders. In the center of the painting is a “typical” railroad station. Besides being used on the painting, the design has also been used on the Poway Station website, shirts, hats, and name badges. |
