Robert Winks Commemorative Covers |
| (Covers come with a 'certificate of authenticity') |
| These commemorative cachet envelopes feature a special event postal cancellation for the Sandical Stamp Show and Philatelic Exhibition. The three-day show started on February 7, 2003, and featured a special post office, which used the Flying Tiger cancellation on all outgoing mail. The cancellation was kept for thirty days, after which it was destroyed, making the Flying Tiger cancellation limited and unique. Postal cancellations are usually not hand painted, making these cachet envelopes unique as well. Capt. Robert P. Winks, P-51 Mustang Ace from the 364th Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group, flew his personal airplane he named “Trusty Rusty”. His biography can be found in the Rogues Gallery. Capt. Robert “Bob” Winks, artist John R. Doughty, and the cancellation designer Mark Kirby, signed each envelope. |
