| On January 18, 1911, Lt. Theodore G. Ellyson landed his Curtiss “Pusher” on the wooden deck of the USS Pennsylvania, and an hour later, took off from the USS Pennsylvania, marking an important event in the history of naval aviation. Soon thereafter, North Island Naval Air Station became the birthplace of naval aviation. In 1986, the Sandical Stamp Expo commemorated the 75th Anniversary of Naval Aviation with a special cacheted envelope. We have six of these special envelopes, signed by cachet designer, Mark Kirby, and three Naval Aviation World War II Aces. |
