Gerald Larsen Commemorative Covers

(Covers come with a 'certificate of authenticity')

These commemorative cacheted envelopes feature the special First Day of Issue cancellation used by the United States Post Offices in Dayton, Ohio, and Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The special cancellation design and Wright Flyer stamp commemorates the 100th Anniversary of Flight. In October, 1960, Major General Gerald D. Larson was selected as a demonstration pilot for the 4520th Air Demonstration Squadron, better known as the world famous USAF Thunderbirds. He flew the solo position in the F-100 Super Sabre, and later initiated the team’s double solo routine in the F-100C. He is a combat veteran with 235 missions in Vietnam, and 6,700 hours flying front line fighter jets. His biography can be found in the Rogues Gallery. Major General Larson, and artist John R. Doughty, Jr., signed each envelope.
