| These commemorative cachet envelopes feature the special First Day Issue cancellation issued by the United States Post Office in Dayton, Ohio, and Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The special cancellation design and Wright Flyer stamp commemorates the 100th Anniversary of Flight. “Old Crow” was flown by Colonel C. E. “Bud” Anderson, when he was assigned to the 363rd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group, also known as the “Yoxford Boys”. He flew 116 combat missions and destroyed 16-1/4 enemy fighters in aerial combat and one on the ground. He also flew combat missions in Southeast Asia as Commander of the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing, and he is a veteran military experimental test pilot. He was decorated 26 times, including 2 Legion of Merits, 5 Distinguished Flying Crosses, the Bronze Star, 16 Air medals, the French Legion of Honor, and the French Croix de Guerre. Col. C. E. “Bud” Anderson, and artist John R. Doughty, Jr., signed each envelope. |
