| Captain Ken Dahlberg flew P-51B (specifications) “Shellelagh” FT-P (2106602), when he was assigned to the 353rd Fighter Squadron, 354th Fighter Group, 9th USAAF. The 353rd Fighter Squadron was the top scoring squadron in World War II with 295 victories, and Captain Dahlberg was a double Ace with 14 air-to-air victories, including four on two different missions. He was shot down and bailed out 3 times, was a P.O.W., and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, two Purple Hearts, and 16 Air Medals. | ||

| 1. Drew in pencil on 8” x 10” masonite board insignia for the 353rd Fighter Squadron, known as the “Flying Cobras”. Completed insignia & covered with paper. Began work on P-51 Mustang. |
2. Drew P-51B, and painted yellow on prop spinner and cowling. Added black prop blades, wheels, invasion stripes, and diamond pattern over yellow on cowling stripe, anti-glare green on cowling and finished cockpit. |
| 3. Painted aluminum fuselage and wing, and added highlights, shadows, and panel lines. Added FT-P to fuselage, and painted in tail code number and horse. Painted “Shellelagh” on cowling, added victory markings, and exhaust stains down side of the fuselage. Signed the painting and Capt. Dahlberg signed on March 21, 2004. | |
