| Major William (Bill) Allen flew P-51D Mustang (specifications) "Pretty Patty II", CY-J (414044), when he was assigned to the 343rd Fighter Squadron, 55th Fighter Group, 8th USAAF, based in Wormingford, England. On September 5, 1944, he shot down five HE-111s near the Goppingen Aerodrome, becoming an Ace in a day. He has also served as the President of the American Fighter Aces Association. | ||

| 1. Drew in pencil the insignia for the 55th Fighter Group on left side of painting, and on the right side, drew in insignia for the 343rd Fighter Squadron. Completed the two insignias and covered them with paper to protect them. Worked on the P-51 Mustang. | 2. Penciled the P-51, painted a yellow tail. Added yellow and green checkerboard on cowling and propeller spinner. Painted anti-glare green on cowling and completed the cockpit. Black on prop blades, wheels and invasion stripes. Added white on invasion stripes and insignia. |
| 3. Painted in aluminum color on the fuselage, then added shadows, highlights, and panel lines. Added CY-J to fuselage, “Pretty Patty II” to the cowling, and the tail code number. Painted victory symbols and then the exhaust stain down the fuselage side. Signed the painting, and Major Allen signed on May 23, 2004. | |
