"P-51 Mustang - Study 6"

Captain Roscoe Brown was a member of the 100th Fighter Squadron, 322nd Fighter Group; also know as the Tuskegee Airmen. He shot down two German aircraft, including an ME-262 on March 24, 1945 during an escort mission to Berlin. He flew a P-51C (specifications), number 7, named “Bunnie”, which he named after his daughter. After the war, he received his PhD in Education from New York University and served as a Professor at N.Y.U. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air medal with 8 oak leaf clusters, and three Presidential Unit Citations.

  • Doris “Bunnie” Bodine – daughter of Roscoe Brown, P-51C named after her.

Progressive stages of painting development.

1. Line drawing of P-51C on masonite.
Painted in the logo and red on the tail,
wing tip, and propeller. Added exhaust pipes,
non-reflective green on cowl and USAAF logo.
2. Painted in the fuselage, and added
in some of the panel lines.
Finished the cockpit, and then
completed the panel line details.
3. Added the two air-to-air victory symbols, the “Bunnie” nose art,
and final details. The painting was signed by the artist.
