| Col. Walker 'Bud' Mahurin flew this P-47, (specification) which was called the 'Spirit of Atlantic City, N.J.', when he was assigned to the 63rd Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Group, 8th USAAF in the European Theatre of Operation. He was credited with 21 victories in WW II, including 20 in Europe and one in the Pacific. He also had 3.5 victories flying the F-86 in the Korean War, giving him a total of 24.5 air-to-air victories. |

Drew in pencil on 8”x10” masonite board insignia for 56th Fighter Group and side profile of P-47. Covered with paper and worked on the P-47 Thunderbolt. | 2. Painted black on wheels, propeller blades, and white cowling. Painted underside, blue and white for US insignia on the side of the fuselage. |
| 3. Painted green color on fuselage and UN-M to fuselage. Added shadows, highlights, panel lines and exhaust stains down side of fuselage. Added tail number, “Spirit of Atlantic City, N.J.” and victory markings. Col. Mahurin signed the painting on March 20, 2005. | |
