F-6F Hellcat Studies

The Grumman F6F Hellcat (specifications), was one of the most effective fighters used by the United States Navy in World War II. From October, 1942 to November, 1945, 4,403 F6F-3 and 7,870 F6F-5 Hellcats were produced. Pilots who flew the aircraft nicknamed Grumman “Ironworks” because the company built strong airplanes with an emphasis on returning the pilot back alive. Of the 6,477 air-to-air victories claimed by Navy and Marine Corps pilots, 4,403 were credited to F6F pilots.
