F-4F Wildcat Studies |
The Grumman F-4F Wildcat (specifications), was the first Navy plane with manually rear-folding wings, which was critical on board the flight and hanger decks of aircraft carriers. Grumman built 1,169 F4F Wildcats for the United States Navy, with 1,060 more built by General Motors, which was designated the FM-1. The F4F was the Navy and Marine Corps main fighter during the early days of World War II, and was eventually replaced by the Grumman F6F Hellcat in 1943. |
