"Messerschmitt Bf-109G - Michael Karatsonyi"
2nd Lt. Michael Karatsonyi flew the Messerschmitt BF-109 G6 (specifications), when he was assigned to the 101st Fighter Group, 3rd Squadron, known as the “Pumas”, in the Royal Hungarian Air Force. He was one of the first pilots to form the unit, which consisted of only 40 aircraft. He is an Ace with 5 air-to-air victories. He was awarded the Fire Cross with swords, the Signum Laudis Medal award for Bravery, the Iron Cross second class, and the Iron Cross first class. He moved to the United States after the war to “find freedom”, and as he stated at the May 23, 2004 Southern California Friends of the American Fighter Aces symposium, “Freedom is so precious, we have to protect it”.
