| The Messerschmitt Bf-109 (specifications) was the most famous German Luftwaffe fighter of World War II, with more than 35,000 produced. It served in North Africa, the Mediterranean theatre, the Eastern front, and the Western front. The fuel-injection system of its Daimler-Benz engine, which continuously supplied fuel no matter how radical the g-force maneuvers flown by the pilot, gave the BF-109 a distinct advantage over allied aircraft during the early days of the war. The E model, called the “Emil”, was widely used in 1941, and the G model, known as the “Gustov”, became the standard version in 1942. |
