"Teamwork at its Finest" |

| In September, 1995, I was contacted by the manager of Human Resources about the possibility of working on a calendar for the employees and customers of Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems in San Diego. I had done a two-year calendar in 1994-1995 for the employees that featured 24 pencil drawings, however, we wanted to do a special calendar for an employee event in December, 1995, that focused on teamwork. It was agreed upon that a color painting would be produced for a wall calendar, and the painting was to have a San Diego theme. Hamilton Sundstrand produces the Jet Fuel Starter for the F-16 Fighting Falcon (specifications), and since the calendar was to convey the theme of teamwork, what better symbol of teamwork that the USAF Thunderbirds? The project was approved and I began doing research for the painting. |

| I went to the Hotel Del Coronado and met with their public relations department, and was given access to their photograph files of the hotel. I was given permission to use some of their aerial photographs of the hotel as a guide for the painting, with the Pacific Ocean and the Point Loma Lighthouse in the background. The painting was completed, and 2,500 calendars were printed. The painting was unveiled at the special employee event and is now on display in the main lobby at Hamilton Sundstrand Power Systems. Calendars were passed out to employees, and I was humbled when asked to autograph them. Calendars were also presented to the staff at the Hotel Del Coronado, the USAF Thunderbirds, and mailed out to Hamilton Sundstrand customers. The 2,500 calendars were gone in 11 days, and another 1,500 calendars were printed. Those calendars were gone in a month, and requests for the calendar were received up to two years after they were distributed. The staff at the Hotel Del Coronado, the Public Affairs Officer for the USAF Thunderbirds, and fellow employees at Hamilton Sundstrand were very helpful in making the 1996 “Teamwork at its Finest” calendar a success. |
