"Homeward Bound"

 
This painting commemorates the first round trip flight to Panama on December 29, 1920. Twelve F-5-L Seaplanes and two Navy Curtis Flying Boats under the command of Capt. H. C. Mustin, Commander, Air Detachment Pacific Fleet, undertook a round trip to test the efficiency of the F-5-L Flying Boats. Eleven of the twelve F-5-L Flying Boats completed the round trip flight. Total flying time for the 7,000 mile trip was 109 hours, 4 minutes, at an average speed of 60 mph.
