| An E2C Hawkeye from VAW-113, the Black Eagles (logo), is shown on station, providing airborne radar coverage for the Carrier Battle Group. The E2C is an early warning and control platform, and the Hawkeye is similar to the USAF E-3 AWACS. The E2C Hawkeye normally carries a crew of five and has the ability to stay airborne for more than five hours. Its avionics package includes the AN/APS-138 radar, whose antenna is mounted in the trademark Frisbee dome on top of the aircraft. With the ability to analyze and classify over 1,000 land and sea contacts, the Hawkeyes sophisticated sensors can cover three million cubic miles. VAW-113 is assigned to Carrier Air Wing 14 aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72), and has a complement of four aircraft. |
